Changes and corrections
Everything that moved numbers, added pages or fixed a mistake on the site, newest first. Model versions are documented in the methodology.
2 November 2026
- Country pages rewritten so the answer comes first, with a chart that sets each country’s thresholds against the world’s and one combined list of sources.
- Answer pages now say how many people earn or own more than the amount, and what the amount means for a couple sharing it.
- German country pages lead with average income per year and per month, in euros and in the local currency.
- Translated country pages that almost nobody looked for were removed; their addresses now lead to the English page.
- Correction: the lists of countries “in the same region” at the bottom of country pages included countries from other regions. They now show only the region, with the alphabetical neighbours on a separate line.
- Correction: the article on $100,000 incomes explained Norway’s high share with compressed pay scales. The real reason is the broad income measure; on Statistics Norway’s own figures about one adult in eight earns more than $100,000. The text now says so.
- Correction: some article links on answer pages showed unfilled template code instead of numbers for a few days. Fixed, and the build now stops if this happens again.
- Correction: most country pages listed the same source twice.
31 October 2026
- Tax by country: the tax on an average wage split into income tax, employee and employer social security for OECD countries.
- New context notes for China and, in German, for India.
24 October 2026
- New page: where millionaires live, with city counts from Henley & Partners and country counts from our model, and why the two differ.
- Context notes for six more country pages.
20 October 2026
- New page: tax by country, with the same salary taxed in 30 countries, VAT, corporate tax, capital taxes and the total tax burden.
- Corrections after an independent fact check of that page, among them: Switzerland’s inheritance tax applies in most cantons, not all; heirs in Norway take over the original cost basis; Israel is not in the Tax Foundation’s index.
- Open data: salary and tax figures as CSV.
16 October 2026
- New: salary around the world, with 2026 tax rules for 30 countries and buying power.
15 October 2026
- New pages: money and life, the world in 100 people and lowest-tax countries. Five new articles.
11 October 2026
- Open data (every threshold as CSV and JSON), the world map, the quiz and path to the top.
10 October 2026
- Model version 11: every country curve rebuilt from the World Inequality Database’s 127-percentile data (2026 update), with ECB exchange rates of 9 October 2026.
- Official person-level income statistics for Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the United Kingdom and the United States, used for income ranks in those countries.
- German, Spanish and French versions; data reports on the top 1% in Norway and Germany.
9 October 2026
- The site went public, with model version 10 and Statistics Norway data for Norway.
